EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- The downtown Eau Claire post office is expected to relocate by October 2014.
Downtown Eau Claire Inc. says that the U.S. Postal Service is looking for potential sites right now. On November 20, the Eau Claire Redevelopment Authority bought the building that the postal service leases at 126 N. Barstow Street in Eau Claire from the Gateway Industrial Park Corporation for nearly $350,000.
Executive Director Mike Schatz says the Redevelopment Authority will take on the lease, which ends September 30, 2014. He does not plan to renew it. Schatz says the site, which is 1.5 acres, could eventually be redeveloped. He says crews could tear down the building, build a parking structure, and include commercial space.
