Eau Claire tubers get exit point on river

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) Eau Claire area tubers will soon be taking to the river as the temperatures continue to rise, and the city is doing its part to make the activity more enjoyable and safe.

Tuesday, the City Council approved an exit point for tubers on the Chippewa River.

The plans would include a look out deck and an exit point at 5th Avenue and Menomonie Street, where tubers will be able to easily get out of the river.

City council members say the next step is building it.

"I think we'll see some construction happening this summer yet and I personally will look forward to going there and I encourage all citizens to be vigilant and be safe as your out there just as anything, when you get into your car, when you go across the street we all need to have out wits about us and be safe, so whatever certainly is a safety issue in our community and I encourage everybody, including my family to take safety precautions," says Catherine Emanuelle, of the City Council.

The vote passed tonight on a 9 to 1 vote.
