EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) People living in Eau Claire will soon be seeing an increase in their water bills.
Eau Claire residential customers will pay 8% more to use water, according to a rate order issued by the Wisconsin Public Service Commission Wednesday.
Right now, the average residential customer in the city pays just over $55 per quarter, but that'll go up to nearly $60 as of April 1st.
The rate order authorized similar increases for multifamily and commercial customer classes.
"It's about average for the time period that the rates, we haven't had rates since 2009, the last full rate case. If you look at the time period since we had out full rate case like this, its pretty standard," says Thomas Hoff, Department of Finance.
According to the rate order, even with the new rates, typical water bills for Eau Claire area residents will remain below the state average for similar utilities.
