ELLSWORTH, Wis. (WEAU) -- Officers say an Ellsworth man is in critical condition after being thrown from a car driven by a drunk driver.

The Ellsworth Police Dept. says Nicholas Robert Rhiel of Ellsworth was found lying on the road around 2:40 a.m. Saturday, near Kruger Lane and Anika Court.

After further investigation, officers determined Rhiel was a passenger of a car and was thrown from the vehicle.

The driver of that car was later identified as Connor Charles Johnson of Beldenville. He was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, causing injury - second offense.

Rhiel remains hospitalized at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

Officers say the incident remains under investigation.
