Emergency drill held at Altoona schools

ALTOONA, Wis. (WEAU)--Police made their presence known at the Altoona Elementary School Thursday afternoon.

Altoona Police and school district employees held a training exercise at the school. Police Chief, James Small, says the scenario was that an active shooter was in the elementary school building.

"This is how we prepare in the event there is a real emergency. Fortunately, we don't have to use this type of training a lot but it's important to have a pre-planned response so we are able to respond appropriately to it," Small says.

The Chief says police will now get together with the school and go over how everything went and see if some things need to be adjusted.
