Employees give back for Day of Caring

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) -- On Wednesday, approximately 270 employees from 12 businesses were volunteering in the community.

It's for the Great Rivers United Way's Day of Caring.

The day serves as a kick off event for companies that are running early United Way employee campaigns.

Employees were helping various organizations in the La Crosse area.

Volunteer activities included stocking, cleaning and helping clients at WAFER, which is a food pantry, and building a bike shelter at The Salvation Army.

“It's just a great way to help a lot of people in our community and a great way to help build company morale,” said United Way fundraising campaign co-chair Jan Brock.

This is the 20th year of the day of caring.

Employees put in more than 800 volunteer hours at 21 projects.
