Evers says he's inclined to run for second term
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin state schools superintendent Tony Evers says he is inclined to run for a second term, but has not yet made a final decision.
The 60-year-old Evers was first elected to the nonpartisan position as state superintendent of public instruction in April 2009. He would be up for re-election in April 2013.
Evers was asked about his intentions Thursday following his annual speech on the status of education in Wisconsin. Candidates for the office can begin circulating nomination papers in December and have until Jan. 2 to file.
Evers has found himself at the forefront of major issues during his term. Last year he opposed Gov. Scott Walker's proposal taking nearly all collective bargaining rights away from teachers, but he has worked with Walker on a number of other issues.
