Ex-Wis. deacon sentenced for solicitation

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A former deacon at a Madison church has been sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison after being convicted of offering a 17-year-old girl money to have sex with him.

Fifty-five-year-old Dannie Carter of Madison continues to deny the charge.

Carter was a deacon at Christ the Solid Rock Baptist Church.

A jury in May found Carter guilty of soliciting a child for prostitution. He allegedly visited a Sun Prairie home in March 2012 and told the girl, who was a member of the church, that he would give her money if she performed a sex act. The girl locked herself in a bathroom and called her aunt, who called police.

Reports say Carter also will serve three years on extended supervision.
