(WEAU) - For the past two years, "Family Night in the Park" has been held in Phoenix Park to bring the community closer together. But what can you expect this year?
The sights and sounds of summer is usually what you'd find in Phoenix Park this time of year, but one sound that's different is of construction on South Barstow Street.
"Our activities in the summer have changed a little bit because of construction on South Barstow Street,” said Salina Heller, Downtown Eau Claire Inc.
With no Summer Fest on the menu this year "Family Night in the Park" is the chance for the community to have fun, stay up late and watch the Lorax outside.
"People can expect a lot of family fun. A lot of free family fun,” said Heller.
But how much fun? I had Salina Heller with Downtown Eau Claire Inc. show me around the great lawn in Phoenix Park.
“Planting truffula trees and we're going to have some food and hair in the park and we're going to have the screen on that end of the park,” said Heller.
It's a screen that's about 25 feet tall and is inflatable.
“We have inflatables, face painting. We'll have some Dr. Seuss hair. You can get your hair done like some fun colors and hairdo's and stuff like that. We're going to be making mustaches. It was neat to have the kids and people hula hoop and blow bubbles in this area because it’s not part of the park that gets used a lot. We hope they can go around and enjoy the things in this area but also see the progress in South Barstow Street,” said Heller.
The construction is expected to be completed August 6th instead of 16th.
"It's a really neat community event, where people just come together hangout in the park for a night,” said Heller.
If you're interested in heading to "Family Night in the Park." The fun begins at 6:30 P.M. Then at 8 P.M. the Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild will perform and at 8:30 P.M. families can enjoy a screening of the Lorax.
