MERRILL, Wis. (WEAU) -- We now know the name of the man drove off with his infant daughter, and was later killed in a crash.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department tells WSAW-TV that Justin Eichelt, 24, of Lublin died in the crash Tuesday afternoon. Investigators say they had started chasing him in Marathon County. They say Eichelt lost control of his vehicle on County Road W in Lincoln County, and was thrown from it. A female passenger and the three-week-old baby were taken to the hospital. There's no word on their condition.
MERILL, Wis. (WEAU) --A man died in a crash after driving off with his three-week-old baby.
The crash happened Tuesday afternoon south of Merrill. A news release from the Wisconsin State Patrol says the case started as a kidnapping investigation. Troopers were looking for a 24-year-old man who had taken his infant daughter. The little girl was born drug-dependent, and in need of medical care. Custody had been given to Taylor County Human Services. The state Department of Justice-Division of Criminal Investigation found the vehicle near Center Road on County Road W in Lincoln County. That's when the man reportedly lost control of his vehicle, hit a car, and went off the road.
The man died at the scene of the crash. The infant and an 18-year-old passenger were hurt.
