'Feed a Child Nyre You' helps end childhood hunger

ALTOONA, Wis. (WEAU) -- An Altoona church group is making sure local students in need don't go hungry on the weekends.

Feed a Child Nyre You held a walk fundraiser at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. More than 170 people participated in the event.

The program packs weekend food backs to give to children at Peterson and Saint Mary's Elementary Schools.

Louise Nyre, wife of Jim Nyre, said her husband would be proud of the work being done.

"He was a giving person and loved to work with kids, he tutored at the school in second grade at the school in Altoona and I know today he's smiling down on all of us and we've had such great weather and a super turnout. So my heart is full of love for all the people and the support we've gotten for the program," said Louise.

The program started in memory of her husband Jim.
