MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A Milwaukee man who was holding a baby at Children's Hospital when he allegedly drew a gun on police officers is expected to enter a plea.
Twenty-two-year-old Ashanti Len Hendricks is charged with child abuse, bail jumping and possessing a gun as a felon. A plea hearing is set for Wednesday afternoon.
Police responded to the Milwaukee hospital in November after receiving a tip. A caller told them Hendricks was wanted for possessing a gun as a felon and was believed to be armed in the hospital.
Officers approached Hendricks as he held the baby. Prosecutors say he either dropped or threw the baby, who suffered a skull fracture. Police shot him twice in the arm as he fled.
Hendricks' defense attorney, Gerald Boyle, did not immediately return a message.
