La Crosse, Wis (WEAU)- One fire department in our area is not only fighting fires but breast cancer as well. The La Crosse fire department is selling pink fire fighter t-shirts to raise money for breast cancer research this month.
The cancer has impacted almost all of the firefighters in some way.
“I lost a great Aunt to breast cancer. To see someone being struck by such a horrible thing, it was very hard,” said Wesely.
“I lost my mother in 1983 to breast cancer,” said Fire Chief Gregg Cleveland.
“I have a cousin who was just diagnosed with breast cancer this year and started treatment. Also my mother-in-law and my sister-in-law were just diagnosed with it. It hits close to home,” said Lt. Kyle Soden.
The fire department started out with more than 300 t-shirts and they have been selling like crazy said Lt. Soden. They only have larges and extra larges left but they are putting in another order.
“If you want a shirt contact us. We’ll get you one,” said Cleveland.
The t-shirt has a small fire department logo on the front left with a pink ribbon incorporated in the design. There is a larger logo on the back where the ribbon is partially a fire hose with the slogan “fighting for a cure” under it. All t-shirts are pink and are $15 dollars each.
So far the department has raised more than $1,500, with their goal being $3,000.
If you wish to purchase one of the t-shirts just call the department’s non emergency number. # 608-789-7260
Or anyone can stop by station #1 during business hours 8a.m.- 4p.m.
The La Crosse Fire Department Open house is Sat October 6th from 9am -1pm.
Pink “Fighting for a Cure” T-shirts will be available that day also.
