EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Fighting fires can be especially difficult with the kind of temperatures we've been seeing lately.
Eau Claire fire crews were called out to an attic fire on the northwest side of Eau Claire Monday afternoon.
Luckily, the fire was mostly put out when crews arrived, but a chief with the Township Fire Department described some of the obstacles with fighting fires in the bitter cold.
The Chief of Rescue Services with the Township Fire Department, Joe Alf, says, "Well first off, keeping the guys safe, preventing frostbite. And then of course trying to keep the water in the hoses from freezing always makes it a challenge."
He says they usually have to keep at least some water moving through the hoses consistently to keep the nozzles from freezing.
