Fire department: Clear snow, ice off decks, platforms, sidewalks

By  |

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Rescue crews are urging people to clear snow and ice off of parts of their homes.

On Wednesday, Eau Claire Fire and Rescue released a statement asking people to clear decks, safety egress platforms, and sidewalks. It's because heavy snow could cause decks or platforms to collapse. The department says egress areas, which lead to lower-level windows in some homes, are critical when it comes to getting outside in an emergency. They also let crews get inside the homes to help people.

The department asks that everyone does their part to make their homes safe. You can reach the department's Fire Prevention Division with questions about fire safety at (715) 839-4825.
