(WEAU) - We have new information on a story we first told you about last week, as a local fire department is now searching for a new chief.
Monday night, the Town of Eagle Point Board accepted Chief Jeff Bowe's resignation. The town says it has appointed an interim chief and will begin searching for a replacement.
The resignation comes on the heels of concerns by the town board about the department. The board's attorney says some volunteer firefighters were responding to medical emergencies without being licensed.
Attorney Harry Hertel also says training records and insurance records for firefighters weren't maintained. “This town board is concerned that there would be a continued prosperity and protection for the community, but it can't just say that it’s okay to do things unless they're in a fashion that protects that community," Hertel told us Monday night.
We asked former chief Jeff Bowie about the issues within the department at the meeting. He declined to comment.
The town chair apologized to the people at the meeting for the miscommunication that had some thinking the fire department was shutting down.
