Fire departments asking for help clearing hydrants

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)- Area fire departments are asking for your help clearing ice and snow from around fire hydrants.

The Eau Claire Fire Department says there are more than 3,500 fire hydrants within the city limits.

Firefighters say when the snow falls; plows can pile snow up around the hydrants making them hard for crews to find them in an emergency.

Firefighters are urging people to adopt a fire hydrant in their neighborhood by shoveling out a three foot area around the hydrant and a path from the hydrant to the road.
