Fire destroys milk house area in barn

BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. (BLACK RIVER FALLS FIRE DEPARTMENT NEWS RELEASE) - On December 31, 2012 at 19:04 the Black River Falls Fire Department was paged by the Jackson County Emergency Dispatch Center for a barn fire at N4843 Hill Road which is in the Township of Irving and the County of Jackson.

Upon arrival an 11’ x 11’ milk house attached to a 100’ x 32’ dairy barn was on fire. The fire was held to the milk house area which is a total loss.

At the present time the barn was not being used to milk cows but young live stock was being housed in the barn at the time and was not harmed.

The cause is not know at this time but a space heater used to keep pipes from freezing and – or an electrical outlet issue is suspected within the milk house.

A damage estimate is not known at this time and the property is insured.

Smoke was noted coming from the milk house by a passing neighbor who stopped and made the owner aware of the fire. The property is owned by Gene Hart.

The department was on scene for 2.5 hours and was assisted on the scene with water tenders and firefighters from the Melrose, Taylor, Hixton and Merrillan Fire Departments.

There were no reported injuries during the incident.
