Fire extinguisher prevents spread of flames in La Crosse home

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Firefighters in La Crosse say quick action with a fire extinguisher may have prevented a big fire at a home.

Around 10:20 Sunday morning, crews were called to a home on Marion Road North in La Crosse.

When they arrived, the person in the home had used a fire extinguished to put out the fire in a ceiling vent fan and had removed a laundry basket of smoldering clothes outside.

Crews say it's a reminder to home owners that a fire extinguisher can make all the difference in preventing fire from spreading.
The cause is still under investigation.
