CHETEK, Wis. (WEAU) – A woman who was found unconscious at the scene of an apartment fire Tuesday night was flown to a Twin Cities hospital and is now listed in critical condition.

A police officer responded to the fire at Lone Oak Manor on West Stout Street in Chetek around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday and evacuated two of the four apartment homes in the complex. The Chetek Fire Department says crews found heavy smoke when they got there, and found Patricia Grant unconscious on the kitchen floor of one of the apartments. She was taken to a local hospital, then flown to another hospital in St. Paul, MN with burns and smoke inhalation.

Fire crews contained the fire to the apartment where it started. The stove in that apartment appears to have caused the fire. Investigators say the burners were on, pans were melted, and that Grant may have been cooking at the time. They also rescued a cat from another apartment, which ended up with minor smoke damage.
