Firefighters urge people in Eau Claire to clear snow around fire hydrants

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Firefighters are again looking for help from the community before snow becomes an obstacle in an emergency.

On Monday, Eau Claire Fire and Rescue urged people to clear snow from around fire hydrants near their homes and businesses. In an interview with WEAU 13 News late last month, firefighters suggested keeping a three-foot clearance around each hydrant. They added that time is of the essence in an emergency situation to get water.

The department put out the reminder because of the increasing snow removal needs in Eau Claire this winter.
