Firm devotes work day to community service

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)- Workers at a local accounting firm spent the day giving back around to the community.

Thursday about 80 volunteers from Wipfli accounting firm were given the day off work to help western Wisconsin charities.

Saws, drills and hammers were all part of the work day for people who normally spend their day running the numbers.

“It’s definitely not our typical day at work. A typical day at work would be behind the desk,” Wipfli associate Lindsey Schlagenhaft said.

It’s a couple hours of hard work that the eight organizations that Wipfli volunteers helped out Thursday say goes along way.

“We wouldn't be able to do it without them we were looking to create these spaces for some while so to be able to see it come to fruition is great for us,” Boys and Girls Club center director Travis Ida said.

Ida says the work done today will help their members for years to come.

“It will give our kids a space to focus on their homework,” Ida said.

Over at Beaver Creek Reserve, volunteers were busy trimming trees to help the reserve get additional funding.

“The volunteers here today will be helping us complete a project and we'll get some funds to help us out with scholarships,” Beaver Creek Reserve director Erik Keisler said.

Workers say for them, the community day is a day they look forward to and it’s a win, win all around.

“We are numbers people and we work with a computer all day long so it’s nice to get outside and work with our hands,” Wipfli associate Brian Buccholz said.

Wipfli says in addition to the workers helping in Eau Claire, about 1,000 workers from their other locations nationwide also took part in the community day.
