Several parents kissed their kids good-bye Tuesday morning and some Kindergartners stepped into class for the first time.

The Eau Claire Area School District says about 10,850 students are enrolled in the district. There are 12 elementary schools, three middle schools, two high schools, and two charter schools.

4th grader Mason Voeltz told us he was nervous for the first day back, but excited too.

"It's so nice because I get to see all my friends and then in the summer I don't get to see them as much lately so that's why I like school," Mason says.

Even though classes have started, the new Eau Claire Area School District Superintendent, Dr. Mary Ann Hardebeck won't start until Monday.

She will be the first female Superintendent for the district.
