First members move into the Wisconsin Veterans Home at Chippewa Falls

CHIPPEWA FALLS, WIS--The Wisconsin Veteran's Home at Chippewa Falls has officially opened its doors! The first four members moved in Monday.

“It’s the whole thing in general it’s so new you feel like you are walking in to a Hollywood home,” said Lowell Sommerfeldt.

“It's very nice and clean, airy,” said Bob Reichelt Sr.

It was a day of moving trucks, boxes and introductions.

“It's been many months of preparing for the members and finally to see them come up the drive way and come on in, its exhilarating people are just happy and excited,” said Administrator Austin Blilie.

The 72 bed home is the newest and only one of three nursing homes in the state geared toward veterans and their families.

“When you’re coming from a home you are used to your private home and life and so that is how the building has been built, private spaces, private seating areas and smaller dinning spaces,” said Administrator Austin Blilie.

Built in a neighborhood concept, building Blilie says they are trying to create a family atmosphere. The building is split in to four communities of 18 rooms, each member getting their own private room and bathroom

The home has another group of members moving in later this week.
And the Administration says there are still rooms available in the facility.
