Five area state patrol officers receive awards in Madison

MADISON, Wis. (WEAU) -- Five area state patrol troopers were honored for their courageous actions.

Governor Scott Walker presented the special awards at the state capitol on Wednesday.

Troopers Trent Betley of Hudson and Robert Unruh of Glenwood City were awarded the meritorious service award for their response to a call for suicidal man that ended in a shootout.

Trooper Jeremy Mcnulty of Black River Falls and Trooper Kyle Devries of Elk Mound were awarded a lifesaving award for performing CPR on a man who was suffering a cardiac arrest on the side of an interstate last December. The man went on to have open heart surgery and survived.

And Captain Jeff Frenette of Eau Claire was awarded the Commendable Service Award for helping provided security and VIP transportation for the National Governors' Association meeting in Milwaukee this August.
