FOND DU LAC, Wis. (AP) -- A new policy at Fond du Lac High School that allows administrators to oversee student publications is drawing criticism, and 16 English teachers are asking administrators to rethink the rules.

This month, students at "Cardinal Columns" student magazine were told that the district was implementing a policy that would allow the principal to oversee student publications and refuse to publish certain items.

The Fond du Lac Reporter Media reported ( ) the move came after the magazine published a story called "The Rape Joke." The story investigated the prevalence of rape jokes at the school and included anonymous stories from victims.

A signed statement from English teachers says the new guidelines are a "path toward censorship."

School Superintendent James Sebert told The Reporter the guidelines are reasonable for a school-sponsored publication.
