Former Packer Tauscher buys weekly newspaper

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Former Green Bay Packer offensive lineman Mark Tauscher is part of a group that has purchased Madison's weekly free alternative newspaper Isthmus.

The Wisconsin State Journal reported Thursday (http://tiny.cc/6kbsix ) that Tauscher, Jeff Haupt and Craig Bartlett acquired Isthmus Publishing Co. from publisher Vince O'Hern. Company ownership was transferred on Wednesday and the sale terms were not released.

The 38-year-old Isthmus publishes a weekly print edition as well as The Daily Page online site.

Tauscher played for the University of Wisconsin Badgers and was drafted by the Packers in 2000, playing for Green Bay for 10 years. He currently does color commentary on Badgers and Packers radio broadcasts.

Haupt and Bartlett both have ties with The Onion, the nationally known satire newspaper that originated in Madison.
