Menomonie, Wis. (WEAU) – A man who served as UW-Stout Chancellor for 16 years has passed away.

Family members of Robert Swanson, 88, say he died Sunday of complications from Alzheimer’s disease in Rochester, MN. Family will hold a private memorial in Rochester. They say a “celebration of Bob’s life” will be held later at UW-Stout.

Swanson spent more than 40 years at UW-Stout. He was an undergraduate and graduate student in the late 1940’s, and was a professor and administrator from 1950 to 1972. Later, he was the school’s sixth chancellor from 1972-1988.

“Chancellor Swanson brought UW-Stout into the modern age of higher education,” said Chancellor Charles W. Sorensen. He succeeded Swanson in 1988. “He left his mark all over this campus and this community, and he will be sorely missed.”
