NEILLSVILLE, Wis. (WEAU) -- The former track coach who pleaded no contest in a sexual assault case is heading to prison.
Clark County District Attorney Lyndsey Boon Brunette says Scott Bergman, 44, of Thorp was sentenced to a year-and-a-half in prison and two years of extended supervision. He pleaded no contest to a charge of Sexual Assault of a Student by School Staff and a count of Bail Jumping this summer. Bergman was an assistant coach at Thorp High School. Investigators say he had sex with a 17-year-old girl who went to the school in November 2012. The Bail Jumping charge was filed after he was found with the girl about a month after he was ordered not to have contact with her.
The sentencing hearing was Tuesday afternoon. Brunette says the sentence was close to what she had recommended.
