Former travel agent charged with theft

DUNN COUNTY, Wis. (WEAU)-- A former travel agent from Chippewa Falls is charged with theft after investigators say she misled a couple into paying for a trip that never happened.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Dunn County court, the couple met with 67-year-old Betty Larson at a motel in Menomonie in 2010 at a travel show she was hosting.

The complaint says the couple wrote Larson a check for a trip to Texas for almost $4,000, which she deposited.

A few months later, the couple found out Larson was facing charges for worthless checks. The complaint says the couple tried to reach her and get a refund but her business and personal phone had been disconnected.
