MADISON, Wis. (WEAU)- A Wisconsin military training base is again set to hold its annual May open house after budget cuts scuttled last year's event.
Fort McCoy has scheduled its annual Armed Forces Day Open House for May 17. The fort had to cancel the 2013 open house in the face of automatic federal budget cuts known as the sequester.
The open house will highlight training at the fort and feature artifact, uniform and equipment displays. Visitors will get a chance to take guided tours as well as participate in a marksmanship test, filling sandbags and getting a personalized ID tag.
Armed Forces Day recognizes past and present military members and is observed nationwide on the third Saturday in May.
Fort McCoy lies between Sparta and Tomah in western Wisconsin.
