BALSAM LAKE, Wis. (POLK COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE) -- On 7/26/14 at 2:49 a.m. the Polk County Dispatch Center received a report of a one vehicle crash on 200th Street, approximately ¼ mile south of 160th Ave. in the Town of St. Croix Falls. The reporting party advised that there were two people in the car who were severely injured.

Upon arrival, deputies found a white 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix in the west ditch with extensive damage. The driver, Preston Wilson, 29, of Frederic was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Polk County Medical Examiners Office. The passenger, Anthony Kralewski, 30, of Centuria, was transported to Regions Hospital in Minnesota by ambulance for injuries sustained in the crash.

The investigation showed that the car was northbound on 200th street at a high rate of speed. The operator attempted to brake as he negotiated a corner, but due to the high speed, the car left the roadway, vaulted over a driveway, and struck several trees in the west ditch. The car came to rest in the west ditch facing south. Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in this crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office. They were assisted on scene by the Centuria Fire Department and St. Croix Valley EMS.
