Friend reacts to death of Brian Harvey

Eau Claire, Wis. (WEAU) -- "Very, very caring about another person, kinda quiet, he had his moments but we all do," said Julie Gibson, a friend of Brian Harvey.

That is how Gibson likes to remember the friend she met 16 years ago. Brian Harvey was roommates with Gibson's sister. She still remembers what it was like meeting him for the first time.

"He was kind of a roommate with her and was a very polite person, good friend," she added.

Gibson lives just down the road from where Brian Harvey lived, the same place police say in mid-August he was killed.

"I couldn't believe it, it was devastating," she said. "I was hoping the best and I met his sisters and I feel sorry for that family."

Larry Fernandez is charged with killing Brian Harvey. Gibson remembers meeting Larry when he lived in the neighborhood with his wife and baby.

"He was a handyman around here and he was nice, but I don't know anything about him," she said.

According to the criminal complaint, police found Harvey's body on Monday. Up until we started talking with Gibson, she did not know her friend had been found.

"How could somebody do that?" She said in reaction.

That reaction was filled with different emotions. Sadness for losing a friend. At the same time, coming to terms with what is a brutal reality, happening at a place and with a person, so close.

"I always thought him about him all the time, where was he, and I hope Larry gets what he deserves, they were supposed to be friends," she added.
