LA CROSSE, Wis (WEAU)- Does the sight of thanksgiving dinner make your mouth water, but the idea of gaining a few pounds makes you want to run?
There is a happy medium, and with thanksgiving a week away it’s time to start thinking of some healthy dishes to add to the table.
Wednesday morning the La Crosse Health Department held a ‘Holiday’ food fair where they showcased 8 different healthy recipes.
Thanksgiving can be a carbohydrate nightmare, but you are not alone.
“It can be difficult especially when it comes to desserts,” said Donna Bentzen after she visited the food fair looking for a recipe to take to her bible study class.
The big goal for many seems to be coming out of the holiday season unchanged.
“The ability to get together, eat, and tomorrow feel good about not gaining 10 pounds,” said Patty Muttall who also attended the food fair.
The cranberry apple crisp was the most popular recipe but some of the others were hard to beat.
“We have kohlrabi mashed potatoes, soup, pumpkin fruit dip, and cranberry rice pilaf,” said Jennifer Miller, Registered Dietician at the Health Department.
If there are some dishes you can’t resist like pumpkin pie, it’s good to remember moderation.
“The holidays aren’t the time to think about weight loss, it’s the time to think about weight eminence,” said Miller.
