GIVING BACK: Loyal sets up Christmas store for Students

LOYAL, Wis (WEAU)--In the spirit of giving, an area school district has turned its gym into Santa’s workshop. Giving their little elves a chance to get gifts for their family and learn a valuable lesson.

"It's been wonderful to watch the kids shop,” said Ron Klein.

The school PTA gave each elementary student one dollar to buy presents.

"The young ones, they tend to buy things that they would buy for themselves, so dads and moms might get stuffed animals or little toys. The older kids, you really see them put a lot of thought in to what they purchase and it’s nice to see,” said Klein.

The items in the store are donated from the community.
Each item priced from 50 cents to $2.
The school then donates all the proceeds to the community food pantry.

Klein says in their district more than 50 percent of the student’s receive free and reduced lunch and for a lot of families the holidays can be tough.

“A lot of families do utilize the food shelf," said Klein.

Last year the schools donated 700 hundred dollars

“It’s important for the school to work with the community and the community to work with the school,” said Klein.

For the kids it’s also chance to put their own present underneath the tree for someone they care about, like mom and dad.

“It’s nice because they are usually the ones shopping for you,” Said 11-year old Paulina Gonzalez.

A lesson in giving not lost on even the youngest of students.
