Gas main break forces evacuations

THORP, Wis. (WEAU) – Crews are repairing a gas line that was ruptured in Thorp Tuesday afternoon, forcing evacuations in the area.

It happened around 4 p.m. Tuesday on East Elm Street in Thorp. City Administrator Randy Reeg says a crew that was removing blacktop and curb and gutter from the street ruptured a natural gas main. He was not sure how many people will be evacuated, or how long it will take to fix the problem.

Reeg says the evacuations are a cautionary measure. Nobody was hurt.
