Gas prices going down for the holidays

EAU CLAIRE (WEAU)- Speculation gas prices could plunge to three dollars by the holidays. We wanted to know if that's really possible.

Gas buddy predicts gas prices will drop ten more cents in Eau Claire between now and Christmas day, an added bonus if you have to do any holiday traveling.

"It would help me make ends meet bottom line," said holiday traveler Paul Lang.

"It would be better than having 20 cents higher," said holiday traveler Dustin Gilstad

While other holiday drivers wish it was even more.

"It wouldn’t affect much. It wouldn’t buy me an extra dinner," said holiday traveler Behzad Nikoomanesh.

Gas expert Patrick DeHaan predicts that Wisconsin gas prices are going to take a dip these next two weeks and agrees with Gas Buddy that prices will drop at least 10 cents here in Eau Claire.

"I would expect Eau Claire prices around $3.30 to get down to $3.20 or high teens, but that’s as good as it gets,” said DeHaan.

Fact is gas prices have been on the decline as of late. Wednesday most gas stations were selling unleaded at $3.29 around Eau Claire today. But a year ago prices were still less than they are today.

"Wisconsin is 7 cents more than a year ago," said DeHaan.

But the decline is starting to level off says DeHaan.

"Things are starting to take a break on the market. Retail prices have caught up to wholesale prices,"said DeHaan.
