LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Summer is getting closer, and an area convention and visitors bureau is gearing up for the tourism season.

The La Crosse Area Convention and Visitors Bureau said its run ads in publications such as the Midwest Travel Guide.

Executive director Dave Clements said the convention and visitors bureau is also putting a greater emphasis on social media, and has been using digital advertising.

He says more is being done with Google Analytics and trying to analyze where advertising has been having an impact.

The La Crosse Area Convention and Visitors Bureau has been on Facebook and Twitter for a few years and Pintrest for a couple of years.

Clements also said the Website was redone about a year ago to make it more user friendly, and an events calendar was added.

We talked to one man who was visiting La Crosse for the first time.

“The people have been really nice and laidback. I’m very comfortable with it. I’m a down east Texas boy, everyone’s nice and friendly, and I’m finding that same flavor here with people,” said Mark Ford.

The Wisconsin Department of Tourism said last year visitor spending was $214 million dollars in La Crosse County.

Last year visitor spending for the whole state was $17.5 billion.
