MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Republican Gov. Scott Walker says state health officials are ready to begin expanding a state program that provides in-home care for the elderly and disabled to seven more Wisconsin counties.

Walker announced in December 2011 his administration would lift an enrollment cap on Family Care and expand it to the 15 counties that don't currently offer it. Walker said Monday the state is finally ready to start expanding the program to Brown, Door, Kewaunee, Marinette, Menomonie, Oconto and Shawano counties.

The expansion would include 2,434 people who use county-run programs as well as 977 people on waiting lists for county services.

But state health officials say it could take at least another year to get the program going in those counties.
