Governor appoints Gibbs as Chippewa County DA
He has tried more than forty jury trials and more than 200 court trials in both civil and criminal matters.

NEWS RELEASE – Governor Scott Walker announced today the appointment of Steven Gibbs as Chippewa County District Attorney.
"Mr. Gibbs has the qualities required to serve as District Attorney,” Governor Scott Walker said. “He not only has extensive experience in legal practice, he is also active and involved in the community."
Steven Gibbs has more than twenty years of experience in the legal field. For the past fifteen years, Gibbs has practiced in various areas of law including Criminal Defense at Hertel & Gibbs, S.C. He also worked as an associate attorney in Eau Claire, WI and Minnetonka, MN, and served as District Court Referee in Hennepin County, MN.
He has tried more than forty jury trials and more than 200 court trials in both civil and criminal matters.
Gibbs earned a B.S. in Political Science and Criminal Justice from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville and earned a law degree from Hamline University, St. Paul, MN.
He is a member of the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Wisconsin Bar Association, Minnesota Bar Association, Chippewa Bar Association and Eau Claire Bar Association.
Gibbs is lifelong resident of Chippewa County. He has volunteered for a variety of organizations including REACH, Inc., Chippewa County Hockey Association, Hallie Girls Softball and T-Ball Association, Chippewa Humane Association, and Chippewa Valley Military Vehicle Preservation Association.
Steven Gibbs is married and has two children.
