Greenwood wins WIAA Division 4 state baseball title

It was a state title 23 years in the making. 1990 was the last time Greenwood won a state title but with a rally in the 6th inning the Indians were able to come home champions with a 6-4 victory.

"Once we were down 4-1 we were a little nervous," said senior infielder Tyler Johnson, "But we have been in this situation before, once we cut it to 4-3 we are in good hands. And Westin pitched a great game and shut them down the rest of the game and once we tied it up i was like this is unreal ..feels so great.

"It was early in the game and we were hitting the ball well," adds coach Kent Hinker. "I know we were going to do it, I really did . I knew we were going to score the runs. We picked our spots, the kids played well and we scored the runs.

Last year we came up short and had some unfinished business, but we came back and did what we had to do to take it home," says senior pitcher Westin Wuethrich

And for fans in Greenwood it has been a good last couple of years. First they won a football they can add a division four baseball title to the trophy case.
