Group protests for equal pay

(WEAU) - We're a third of the way into 2013, but a group says it took until April 9th for women to finally catch up to what men made in 2012.

Tuesday in Eau Claire, people stood together to call attention to what they say is a wage gap. It's called Equal Pay Day.

They say women still make 77 cents to every dollar a man makes. They say women are more
Educated in 2013, but will lose out on about $430,000 over their 40 year careers.

Groups like 9to5 Wisconsin are asking the state to raise the minimum wage and ensure workers earn paid time off for their families.

State Director of 9to5 Wisconsin Dana Schultz told us it’s about "the idea of keeping families first. Women are still doing about 80% of the work at home and caregiving so if we don't have any accommodation for that in the work place, a modernized work place to make it pro-family, we're still going to see that gap between men and women."

US Senator Tammy Baldwin released a statement saying in part, "fairness for Wisconsin women will lead to a stronger middle class."

We also tried contacting Senator Ron Johnson for a statement, but have not heard back.
