LA CROSSE (WEAU)- Husbands, fiances, boyfriends, you shouldn’t have to think too hard when it comes to a Christmas gift for your lady. An easy choice has always been jewelry, but maybe you’re thinking it’s time to switch thing up.
Gun sales have been booming this Christmas season for more reasons than one, and now there are more options for the female on your list than ever before.
Browsing through the sporting goods department is Kyle Von Ruden. He got his wife a gun for Christmas a few years back and now he’s contemplating getting her another one.
“She sat out with me a few years before hunters safety and just really loved being out in the woods. She was pretty pumped to get her first gun,” said Von Ruden.
The gift of a gun Von Ruden says has brought them closer together, and other men agree that it makes them feel safer knowing their girl has a gun of her own.
“Some things I’ve thought about maybe a shotgun or something she can have of her own to shoot birds with,” said Von Ruden.
“My girl, she really enjoys shooting hand guns. When she’s that way I feel more comfort. If I’m gone for a hunting trip I know she is responsible, and educated to use it if she would need it for self defense,” said Ace Sporting Goods representative Ron Gehrke.
When it comes to choosing what gun to get there are now more options than ever in the gun department for women.
“Pink ones, pink cameo ones, and made smaller to give less recoil,” said Gehrke.
The big guns are not selling as fast as the hand guns for ladies. Gehrke said that handgun sales are up 25-30% at Ace in La Crosse.
Gun sales right now are through the roof for most gun shops, but not just because it’s Christmas. Some gun owners believe President Obama is a threat to private firearm ownership.
“I don’t know if the election holds a lot or not but it seems to come over the counter quite a bit. People are worried about their guns,” said Gehrke.
