HEAT WAVE 2012: 23 people treated for heat-related illnesses this week

(WEAU) – 23 people have been treated for heat-related illnesses this week in Eau Claire according to two local hospitals.

A Mayo Clinic Health System’s representative says they had three heat-related patients on Thursday and have treated 10 total this week.

Sacred Heart Hospital says they have treated three patients for heat-related cases Thursday and have seen 13 this week.

To avoid succumbing to the heat, it is suggested that you drink plenty of fluids, preferably water and wear light weight, light colored clothing, since dark colors draw heat. If possible, minimize your time outdoors, and take frequent breaks.
