SOMERS, Wis. (AP) -- Officials at University of Wisconsin-Parkside are promising quick action against anyone responsible for recent hate crimes on campus.

University officials say a person found a noose made of rubber bands in a common area of a suite Wednesday night at Pike River Suites, one of the residence halls on campus.

In a second incident Thursday morning, a note was left near the door of the person who reported the noose.

Thursday evening, students reported finding fliers that threatened black students.

Cindy Graham, interim dean of students, says the incident was racially motivated. She notes that Wednesday was the kickoff of black history month on campus.

Graham says if the suspect is a Parkside student, that person would likely be expelled if caught.
