No names are being released at this time and the crash remains under investigation by the La Crosse Police Department.
LA CROSSE, Wis. (LA CROSSE POLICE DEPARTMENT NEWS RELEASE) -- On 09/24/2013 at 6:22 p.m. the La Crosse Police Department responded to 1400 Hwy. 16, along with other first responders(La Crosse County Sheriff’s Department, La Crosse Fire Department and Tri-State Ambulance) for a car crash involving 2 vehicles, where one of the vehicles was fully engulfed in flames.
Vehicle #1 was traveling southbound on Hwy. 16 when it attempted a passing maneuver, lost control and went into the northbound lane of traffic and struck a northbound vehicle head on. Vehicle #1 then spun and caught on fire and the lone occupant (Driver) was pulled out of the vehicle by a couple of citizens (witnesses) who had stopped near the crash. The operator of vehicle #1 was transported to a local hospital with non-life threating injuries. The operator of Vehicle #1 was charged with Reckless Driving-Causing Bodily Harm. The operator was wearing his seatbelt.
Vehicle #2 which had been traveling northbound on Hwy. 16 when vehicle #1 crossed into their lane of traffic had 4 occupants in the vehicle. All 4 occupant of vehicle #2 were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. All 4 occupants were wearing their seatbelts.
