LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Winter is the American Red Cross’ busiest time of year to help families impacted by fires, and two high school students are trying to help the cause.
Aaron Brumm and Payton Zietlow are sophomores at La Crosse Central High School.
The two are raising funds for the American Red Cross’ Scenic Bluffs Chapter in La Crosse to help people impacted by house fires.
“Really in life that’s one of the biggest goals is to help other people and to share your knowledge,” said Zietlow.
“It’s super rewarding just knowing that especially in the time of holidays when people are in need,” said Brumm.
Aaron and Payton are doing this for a project as part of the Distributive Education Clubs of America.
DECA helps high school and college students prepare for careers in business.
“We thought it would be a lot of fun, and we’re pretty competitive people so we thought it be a good fit,” said Brumm.
The two decided to raise money for the American Red Cross, because Payton’s grandma has been working and volunteering there for nearly forty years.
“It’s in our kind of family roots to you know help others and do as much as we can for our community,” said Zietlow.
You can find donation boxes at Kwik Trip and Tobacco Outlet Plus stores in La Crosse, Onalaska, Holmen and West Salem.
