Highway 60 in Wabasha has water on roadway; may close

ROCHESTER, Minn. -- The Minnesota Department of Transportation is warning drivers that water is on the roadway of Highway 60 at the entrance to Wabasha.

The road is a low-lying area that crosses under a railroad bridge to the east of the intersection of Highway 60 and Highway 61 on the west edge of Wabasha. MnDOT is monitoring the road and has placed signs warning drivers of the water.

If water levels rise, MnDOT expects to temporarily close the road to ensure motorist safety.

Drivers should plan accordingly. When a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.

MnDOT continues to list state roadways across Minnesota that are closed or affected by flooding. Visit the web site at www.dot.state.mn.us/flood/.
