CENTURIA, Wis. (AP) -- Officials hope to find homes for 22 cats abandoned at a western Wisconsin veterinary hospital last month.

Someone abandoned the cats in plastic bins on the doorstep of Interstate Veterinary Hospital in Centuria on Oct. 29. The bins were tied shut, and each had a hole drilled in it to allow the cats to breathe.

The hospital currently has four cats up for adoption, and a fifth is expected to be adopted this week. The 17 other cats are up for adoption through Arnell Memorial Humane Society in Amery.

Shelter director Mary Bruckner tells the St. Paul Pioneer Press the cats are healthy and friendly. Bruckner says getting the 17 cats put the shelter over capacity, so the shelter hopes to adopt the cats out quickly.
