EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- A big grant will help out a new hotel in downtown Eau Claire.

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation awarded a $500,000 grant to the city to help fund the renovation of The Oxbow Hotel on Tuesday.

The grant was announced at the hotel on Galloway Street, a property that once housed The Green Tree Inn.

Nick Meyer, one of the developers with the hotel, says they're thrilled with the hotel's location.

"We are right on the state bike trail, we are just feet from the river, we're next to the local store, the chamber, the hitch building that's putting a new restaurant in there as well. This is the new downtown district as far as we're concerned, “said Meyer.

The Oxbow Hotel is scheduled to open next summer.
